## The challenge

Every coffee maker promises better coffee. Blooming had an actual reason: a pre-soak that lets the grounds release CO₂ before brewing, the way baristas do it by hand. But blooming is invisible to most people, happens in seconds, and nobody outside a coffee shop has heard the word. The film had to make a chemical process look irresistible in 25 seconds.

## The approach

I directed, shot and edited it in two worlds. On one side, crisp studio shots of the machine against white, lit to make brushed steel look expensive. On the other, dark macro footage right down in the filter, where you can watch the grounds swell and bubble as they bloom. Practical macro work did most of the heavy lifting, with VFX to finish it.

## The outcome

The film launched Blooming in Sweden and Finland, and the footage had a long life: OBH Nordica was still cutting new coffee maker ads from it in 2025.
