## The challenge

Isatou Jones grew up in Örebro when West African food was basically unknown in Sweden. Her book set out to change that, and she calls it an anti-racist cookbook. The photography had to make unfamiliar dishes feel inviting and obvious, without turning them into something exotic.

## The approach

I shot the book with the food as the hero: natural light, honest textures and generous plates, giving jollof the same everyday respect any Swedish cookbook gives meatballs.

## The outcome

Kerr Jollof was published in 2019, bringing West African home cooking onto Swedish bookshop shelves and into Swedish kitchens.
